My Review – Black Doves Streaming on Netflix My Rating
8.5/10Remember those great sentimental British Christmas movies like Love Actually and Last Christmas. Black Doves surprisingly packs some of those holiday moments into its six dramatic episodes. I say amazing because this British spy thriller has some very violent moments, with shootings, executions and some very dark moments, yet these scenes are almost comical, or perhaps like many, I have become a little desensitized to violence on TV and in movies.

Black Doves, skillfully directed by Alex Gabassi and Lisa Gunning and written by Joe Barton, sees Ben Whishaw, Keira Knightley and Sarah Lancashire all in top form, playing very shady characters with double lives, working together and independently in an attempt to solve the assassination of a prominent Chinese diplomat. Playing a role very different from anything I have seen him play before, Ben Whishaw plays Sam, the young boyfriend of Helen Webb, played by Keira Nightly. loyalty.

Black Doves moves quickly with many interesting characters, including Helen’s husband Wallace, an influential and ambitious politician who is oblivious to his wife’s double life until the dramatic conclusion. The other supporting role I enjoyed was played by Kathryn Hunter as Lenny Lines, another ruthless assassin recruiter. The lighter touches of snowy scenes Christmas carols and presents around the tree, which I felt added another dimension to what could have been a very dark series.

I suspect and hope we will see more of Black Doves, it is a quality production. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
