Call Mickey Haller
Plot
Need a lawyer? He runs his law firm out of his Lincoln and is ready to hit the gas.
Originally created with CBS for a series commitment in 2020, it was canceled shortly before filming the first episode due to COVID
Moving around Los Angeles, he takes on cases while balancing a personal life that includes being a father and having two ex-wives. Now Netflix has picked it up for a 10-episode first season based on Mickey Haller’s second book, “The Brass Verdict.” Mickey Haller owns several cars, all with personalized California license plates with legal terms.
Mentioned in Telly’s Sanctuary: Week 3 (2022)
Personalized California license plates allow a maximum of seven letters/numbers, but all of Mickey’s plates have at least eight. A drug-rehabilitated lawyer with two ex-wives, a daughter, and a passion for cars finds himself embroiled in a high-profile case after the death of a friend.
This is complete with a practice and more subcases than he can handle
This intriguing premise creates a backdrop full of opportunities for a variety of legal proceedings. The show takes this, adds a solid cast, well-crafted and delivered dialogue, and an interesting plot, and moves along at a good pace.
It’s engaging, funny, and enjoyable from start to finish; highly recommended
Some cinematic choices are awkward, particularly the variable focus shots and some orange tones, though overall it works as required. Mickey’s driver, Izzy, is often used as a plot device, but despite being obvious, he feels natural and in keeping with the narrative.
