As you know, most of the UX changes will be borrowed from the Windows 10X shell, and Windows 10X will not come to market. What’s new in Windows 11: Windows 11 will get a completely new look.
And the brand new look suits it perfectly
Microsoft definitely needs a good reason to back off on previous claims and continue to ditch Windows 10 with a new OS number. The Redmond giant has been preparing for a long time the transformation of an update codenamed Sun Valley (“Valley of the Sun”) – apparently, Windows 11 had this name The Sun Valley project flashed on the network – Microsoft regularly revealed information about the new interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information, and popular designers in their circles developed realistic concepts based on all this data. – Startup and system items will float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and face of every recent version of Windows. Not surprisingly, in Windows 11, the developers will change it again, but not so much functionally, but visually – the Start window will float above the bottom bar.

Admittedly, these minor changes make the system look much fresher. Judging by information from the Internet, Microsoft will not radically change the “interior” of this menu – the updates will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float in the air and its design will be exactly the same as “Start”. The action center will be combined with control buttons – something similar has been used for a long time in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be island-like, with controls placed in one separate panel, notifications in another, and specific elements (like the player) in yet another separate panel.

To tell the truth, insiders and concept designers do not agree on this issue – some are sure that Microsoft will not change its traditions and keep right angles, while others are sure that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the rounded trend. The latter better fits the definition of “brand new Windows” – floating menus alone aren’t enough to make a new design truly new. Rounding is expected to affect virtually everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. True, the opinions of concept designers differ on this issue as well – some draw curves in all possible interface elements, others connect them at right angles. There is some disagreement online about the style of the window display islands, the corner design, and the levitation effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the windows.
Most of the leaks and design renderings show transparency and blur in all windows, at least in the Start menu or Explorer
Moreover, these effects occur even in the assembly of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed for dual-screen devices and weak gadgets in parallel with the Sun Valley project.
